TROLLEY 3D Animation & Visual Effects
How proud are we? Like, this proud! Or maybe even this proud!!?

EESB are oh so happy to announce the completion of our parts for the TROLLEY project.
For those of you who didn’t know, we were taking care of all of the 3D modelling and animation for one of the Digishorts 2009 films, funded by Screen WM; TROLLEY.
The film was Produced by Rachel Carter, Directed by Anna Shelton, with Phil Wood drafted in as Director of Photography.
In our roles as animators and VFX artists we went the whole nerdy-nine-yards on this brief… turning up on set to take measurements, collecting more reference photographs of the trolleys we would have to model, and we even took our big shiny silver ball with us so we could record the correct lighting information for the 3D scenes we produced. Paul almost had a Dorkgasm noting focal length numbers from the prime lenses attached to the RED ONE, so we could match the camera in our virtual sets. He is easily pleased is our Paul.

Our pipeline (for those of you who may be interested) featured Lightwave 3D, Zbrush, After Effects, Premier Pro and REDCINE, allowing us to work to the highest quality specs. The project was originated in a mix of 2K and 4K resolution plates.
The film is having its first outing on Tuesday the 3rd November at The Electric Cinema in Birmingham – where all of the cast, crew and us back-room boys have been invited to view our work on the big screen along with the other Digishorts from that particular batch. Awesome stuff!

Anyway, we’ll leave you with some images and vids of the parts that we took care of, and hopefully we’ll be showing you the full final edit sometime shortly after the Premiere.
Keep well all, more soon.
Animation Event
We’ve been asked by our friends at the Animation Forum West Midlands to let you know about their event, so here it is. We hope to be attending ourselves!
Animation in the West Midlands: A Snapshot
7pm-8.45pm, Thursday 5th November 2009,
Technology, Engineering and the Environment (tic) Millennium Point, Birmingham, B4 7XG
Come celebrate the launch of Flip Festival ‘09 with a look at the current state of the West Midlands’ animation industry, drinks and screenings.
Animation in the West Midlands: A Snapshot, co-hosted by Flip, Creative Networks, Hello Digital and Animation Forum WM, will be looking at the current state of the region’s animation industry, what are its highlights and achievements? And, how can we help the sector develop and expand at a time of recession?
As well as screening work from leading animation studios and individual filmmakers, a panel including Chris Randall (Second Home Productions), Andy Guest (The CharacterShop), Sam Moore (a filmmaker specialising in animated documentary) and Dan Lawson (Head of Production, Development and Inward Investment, Screen WM) will debate how the animation community can continue to expand and develop.
Join us afterwards in the iBar too for drinks, socialising and live music from the Young Runaways. There will also be laptops on hand to show off your own work and showreels (Ã la Shorts on Screens).
The event is free to attend, but please RSVP to info@light-house.co.uk.
Updated EESB website
Greetings all,
We’ve altered the way our website works, so it is now much more updateable and customisable. Hopefully this will make the experience faster and more relevant for all of you, our visitors, and also helps get our site out there naturally.
We hope you continue to enjoy visiting Eight Eyed Sea Bass.
Birmingham City Council – Fostering

As many of you may realise, Birmingham Council is huge. Like, it’s the most huge city council in all of Europe! So, to get any work done, the Council is split into many different departments. We deal with a few of these departments, and on this occasion it was the Adoption & Fostering department once more.
For this project they have been focussing more on Fostering – they’ve covered Adoption in the past already. With Salt and Pepper Films, they’ve been creating films to demonstrate why people should Adopt and Foster children.
This year’s films had a bit more of a shock factor to them, but by all accounts, this has worked very well for their film.
However, the Council asked us to get involved because they needed two versions of the DVD to be created for internal and external use, with menus that allowed them to access any part of the DVD and films with ease, while also tying in with existing graphics that had been created for the print work such as flyers and billboards.

So, that’s exactly what we did, and our clients at the council have all been very pleased with the authored outcome.
We then had to replicate a few thousand DVDs of this project and a previous one, shipping them to a commercial printer to be attached to a couple of types of printed packs for distribution. Thankfully we made this a very smooth process for them, and the packs are now available to anybody who contacts the Adoption and Fostering department of the City Council.
